Very generous for a first job
 Permanent

Are you a graduate or school-leaver with some programming knowledge, who wants to take their first step into a programming career? My Oxford-based client are a very successful SaaS business willing to take on and mentor promising junior programmers whose programming experience has so far just been a hobby or a programming bootcamp.

Based near Oxford train station, the team’s codebase is modern and shows off many cutting-edge and proven technologies. Their primary development language is Perl, a multi-paradigm programming language in use everywhere from search engines to startups.

As a new member of the team, you’ll be expected to be self-starting. You’ll need some non-commercial programming experience - maybe you’ve written PHP or JavaScript for fun or as part of your own website. You should also be familiar with the basics of databases and have a firm conceptual grasp of how the Internet works. Beyond that, you’ll get a chance to join a strong development team and get some years of proper, high-end, and modern development under your belt as the first step in your programming career.

Skills and Experience

This is a junior role, so we’re not expecting you to be a programming genius, or looking for commercial experience. But you should have done some programming as a hobby or maybe as part of your education, and understand the fundamentals of web development.
